DearWebby is actually Helmut Morscher, the CEO of Webby, inc.
Originally the "Tech Support Pits" were reports of the funniest tech support incidents, but over the years the
column gradually shifted to answering tech support questions put forward by the readers of the Dear
Webby Humor Letter.
This collection of computer and web advice was started partly because readers demanded an archive, and partly
because some questions were asked again and again. Each page has a different day's Tech Support Pits column.

Tech Support Pits column from Dear Webby's Humor Letter of
02/07/05: Hard Drive Jumpers
Tech Support Pits:
From Tina===
Dear Webby
You mentioned a few times that a hard drive from an older
Machine can be put into a new machine as a second drive,
but that some jumper on it would have to be moved to tell
It that it is now the slave drive and not the master drive.
>From what position to which position does it have to be
Moved?
Tina
Dear Tina
That depends entirely on the make and model of drive that
You have. The ONLY thing that is common with all drives, is
That they all have an easy to follow diagram right on the
Drive, quite often near the jumpers.
Just look at that diagram and you will see what you have to
Do to make that drive behave as the second drive should.
Have FUN!
