DearWebby is actually Helmut Morscher, the CEO of Webby, inc.
Originally the "Tech Support Pits" were reports of the funniest tech support incidents, but over the years the
column gradually shifted to answering tech support questions put forward by the readers of the Dear
Webby Humor Letter.
This collection of computer and web advice was started partly because readers demanded an archive, and partly
because some questions were asked again and again. Each page has a different day's Tech Support Pits column.

Tech Support Pits column from Dear Webby's Humor Letter of
02/29/04: Increasing spam
Tech Support Pits:
From Scott===
Dear Webby,
The spam in my mail is increasing steadily. Aren't those fancy
new laws supposed to stop the spam?
And how do people like you, who can't just keep changing
their address cope with it?
Scott
Dear Scott
Those laws are only protecting spammers and benefitting
some lawyers, but they don't affect the quantity of spam
that shows up in your mailbox any more, than if you were
praying to a fire hydrant.
I use MailWasher to hide the spam from me.
Here you see a weeks worth of stats from my MailWasher:
Green is what is sent to me,
Red is what is dumped by MailWasher,
Blue is what is left over for me to actually see and answer.
You can get MailWasher by clicking on the
FireTrust Mailwasher button on the left. I would hightly
recommend that you get it, and get comfortable with it.
Get used to making filters to supplement what it already
does on it's own. And do that now, while your spam load
is still small, because it WILL get worse.
Have FUN!
