DearWebby is actually Helmut Morscher, the CEO of Webby, inc.
Originally the "Tech Support Pits" were reports of the funniest tech support incidents, but over the years the
column gradually shifted to answering tech support questions put forward by the readers of the Dear
Webby Humor Letter.
This collection of computer and web advice was started partly because readers demanded an archive, and partly
because some questions were asked again and again. Each page has a different day's Tech Support Pits column.

Tech Support Pits column from Dear Webby's Humor Letter of
06/30/05: OSSPROXY
Tech Support Pits:
From Carol===
Dear Webby
need some tech help, please.
Every time I am on my computer at home, and at periods of
approximately every 10-15 minutes, the following message
pops up (we have AOL and they were no help):
The OSSPROXY.EXE file is linked to missing export
KERNEL32.DLL:lsDebuggedPresent What's this
gobbleegook mean, and what, if anything, do we need to
do to get it off our (very) old computer? Just to give you an
idea of how old our computer is, we can't go any higher on
the AOL upgrade than 6.0. and our memory is (honest) 27.
Carol
Dear Carol
OSSPROXY.EXE pretends to be a download accelerator,
but it's just ad ware that saddles you with more ads. It is also
a security risk.
I would try using Spybot-Search&Destroy or AdAware
to get rid of it.
Have FUN!
