DearWebby is actually Helmut Morscher, the CEO of Webby, inc.
Originally the "Tech Support Pits" were reports of the funniest tech support incidents, but over the years the
column gradually shifted to answering tech support questions put forward by the readers of the Dear
Webby Humor Letter.
This collection of computer and web advice was started partly because readers demanded an archive, and partly
because some questions were asked again and again. Each page has a different day's Tech Support Pits column.

Tech Support Pits column from Dear Webby's Humor Letter of

Tech Support Pits:
From ~paco===
hi webby,
i just finished voting for ur ezine on cumuli and went
reading my mail when i noticed that you had no tech help
section entry, claiming there were no unanswered
questions to enter. i sent you one a few weeks to a month
ago in where i asked if there was any way to get into
dosshell from win xp pro, but i don't recall seeing a reply.
i made it a habit to go there in win 98 se and clear out the
dead wood after i had gone into dos and deleted my
swap file and temp files. i had heard there was a way in
thru a startup disk but i never found out how. have you
ever heard of any way to get into dos from win xp?
~paco
Hi ~paco
I had answered that question a few times.
Just hit START, RUN,
type cmd
Hit Enter.
You will have a DOS window.
All your old bats going back to DOS 3 will work just fine.
For making a snazzy DOS icon, have a look at the
Sept 14/03 humor letter, or search for it in the tech tips
at http://webby.com/techtips
Just put DOS into the search and it will find a few of them.
The one with the DOS icon is at
