DearWebby is actually Helmut Morscher, the CEO of Webby, inc.
Originally the "Tech Support Pits" were reports of the funniest tech support incidents, but over the years the
column gradually shifted to answering tech support questions put forward by the readers of the Dear
Webby Humor Letter.
This collection of computer and web advice was started partly because readers demanded an archive, and partly
because some questions were asked again and again. Each page has a different day's Tech Support Pits column.

Tech Support Pits column from Dear Webby's Humor Letter of
07/12/04: Heat in the computer
Tech Support Pits:
From Rudy===
Dear Webby
I am running a hot and high performance computer and I am
worried how it will take this summer heat. Would it help
if I took the side cover off ?
Thanks
Rudy
Dear Rudy
No, it would not help at all.
The machine is designed so that the air is drawn across
the components that need cooling. If you take the cover off,
then the fans just draw the air via the shortest route,
which will not include the hot compnents.
Open the covers just for vacuming the inside, but always
close them tightly afterwards.
Have FUN
