DearWebby is actually Helmut Morscher, the CEO of Webby, inc.
Originally the "Tech Support Pits" were reports of the funniest tech support incidents, but over the years the
column gradually shifted to answering tech support questions put forward by the readers of the Dear
Webby Humor Letter.
This collection of computer and web advice was started partly because readers demanded an archive, and partly
because some questions were asked again and again. Each page has a different day's Tech Support Pits column.

Tech Support Pits column from Dear Webby's Humor Letter of
07/20/05: Internet business 3
Tech Support Pits:
From Carrie===
Hi Webby,
There is so much written about making big money on the
Internet. Since most of that is in spam, how much of that
can be believed ? I want just a small business without the
stress that comes with a big company. Is there something
that would fit for me?
Thanks
Carrie
Dear Carrie
8) As you gain experience from selling to relatives and
friends, promote your goods on your site and in your
newsletter. For that to work, you need credibility.
OK, so we covered the address and the on-line business
card to start building respectability and credibility. Next
is a newsletter, but before you get too far into that, you
should nail down what you will provide for the visitors
money.
Your product or service does NOT have to be unique or
superb. Just look at all the F.O.R.D. dealerships ! They
all make good money, without ever being accused of
having a unique or superb product..
The money is in the presentation.
Look at Amazon.com. They sell the same books as your
downtown book store, and they make Billions of dollars
by presenting the books better and making shopping easier.
Next, look at how a lot of sites make money by selling
a handful of personally selected books from Amazon.
They put together a nice selection of books on a narrow
topic, saving the visitor the time to hunt all over for those
books. All they provide is a menu of those books, brief
descriptions of them and their own recommendations.
And the links to those books at Amazon.
Amazon does the credit card stuff and the shipping, and
the referer site gets a commission. You will NOT get rich
if that is all you do! You'll make $20 - $200 a month,
but it's easy and takes very little time and effort.
However, the main reason I mentioned it is to dispell
the myth that you need a unique or superb product.
Just pick a theme that you can get excited about, and
find a niche within that theme.
Keep in mind that you can always add more stuff or services
to your offering. Don't let that hold you back. Just get
started and begin learning and making money.
Have FUN!
