DearWebby is actually Helmut Morscher, the CEO of Webby, inc.
Originally the "Tech Support Pits" were reports of the funniest tech support incidents, but over the years the
column gradually shifted to answering tech support questions put forward by the readers of the Dear
Webby Humor Letter.
This collection of computer and web advice was started partly because readers demanded an archive, and partly
because some questions were asked again and again. Each page has a different day's Tech Support Pits column.

Tech Support Pits column from Dear Webby's Humor Letter of
07/26/03: Spyware, Connect2Party
Tech Support Pits:
From Jennifer===
What's the big panic about spyware and stuff. I got
nothing to hide and don't give a hoot if anybody knows
where I shop and what for. Why worry then ?
Jennifer
Dear Jennifer
A lot of the spyware carries a Trojan program that
will take over part of your computer. Some of them
for example carry the "Connect2Party" worm. It waits
for the screensaver or other periods of inactivity,
then disconnects you from the net and uses your
modem to call expensive 1-900 numbers. At $50 or
more per minute you can get a very nasty surprise
on your next phone bill. Better use some decent
Anti-Spyware program.
