DearWebby is actually Helmut Morscher, the CEO of Webby, inc.
Originally the "Tech Support Pits" were reports of the funniest tech support incidents, but over the years the
column gradually shifted to answering tech support questions put forward by the readers of the Dear
Webby Humor Letter.
This collection of computer and web advice was started partly because readers demanded an archive, and partly
because some questions were asked again and again. Each page has a different day's Tech Support Pits column.

Tech Support Pits column from Dear Webby's Humor Letter of
07/31/05: Cost of printing PDF books
Tech Support Pits:
From Mary===
Dear 'Webby':
In this newsletter, I see a person making a reference
to pdf. books. This is my take on it. For booklets, it is
OK for me...15 or 20 pages...However, on full size books;
it takes an awful lot of ink and paper to print out and
discourages me from purchasing the product. It's like a
certain garden web site that I frequent. He sells a pdf.
book package for $197 that entails everything you need
to know about starting up a small plant business...which
is indeed something I would like to do. The price to me,
itself seems exhorbitant...but in pdf. format...? I don't
think so. It'll be strictly trial and error for me. I'm
sure his ebooks are full of very practical and useful
information...but it would cost a fortune...not just for
the product itself, but to print it all out.
So, for short documents, pdf. is alright. Books...forget it.
Just my opinion on the matter.
By the way, I love most of your jokes in this newsletter
and especially like the computer tips you give.
Thanks for everything.
Mary
Dear Mary
Have you been brainwashed by AOL?
5000 sheets of paper cost $25. So, 200 sheets cost
one dollar. You want to start a business, but whine about
ONE dollar! Take a reality pill!
I have not seen that book, but on this planet $197 is an
excellent bargain price for a business manual. You probably
lose, and deserve to lose, more than that by ignoring the
first of a thousand tips in that manual.
Loosing time and money is free.
Starting a profitable business is not.
Have FUN!
