DearWebby is actually Helmut Morscher, the CEO of Webby, inc.
Originally the "Tech Support Pits" were reports of the funniest tech support incidents, but over the years the
column gradually shifted to answering tech support questions put forward by the readers of the Dear
Webby Humor Letter.
This collection of computer and web advice was started partly because readers demanded an archive, and partly
because some questions were asked again and again. Each page has a different day's Tech Support Pits column.

Tech Support Pits column from Dear Webby's Humor Letter of
09/17/04: Hiding Folders
Tech Support Pits:
From Debbe===
Dear Webby,
Can you tell me what the best way to hide a folder and
files on my computer so snooping kids and X's can't find
my personal things? I'm using Windows XP
Thanks a million!
Debbie
Dear Debbie
The safest method is to password Windows or to hide the
power cord that goes to the computer.
If you can't trust them, it's stupid to let them onto your
machine. You don't let them snoop in your diary, purse or
the little black book, so why should you let them into your
computer ?
Let them get their own.
Even if you can stop them from snooping, they are bound to
mess things up while they try. You don't need that.
Yes, I know that in the not too far future you are going to
say: "I should have listened..."
If you do insist on being silly and letting X's and snooping
kids onto your computer, you can't stop them from messing
things up, but with some software programs you can stop
them from seeing secret folders .
Here are some of those programs:
