DearWebby is actually Helmut Morscher, the CEO of Webby, inc.
Originally the "Tech Support Pits" were reports of the funniest tech support incidents, but over the years the
column gradually shifted to answering tech support questions put forward by the readers of the Dear
Webby Humor Letter.
This collection of computer and web advice was started partly because readers demanded an archive, and partly
because some questions were asked again and again. Each page has a different day's Tech Support Pits column.

Tech Support Pits column from Dear Webby's Humor Letter of
10/02/04: Spybot in magazines
Tech Support Pits:
From Phyllis===
Dear Webby,
I have been using Spybot-Search&Destroy since you suggested
it and I am quite happy with it. The other day I saw an article by
PC-World about anti-spyware comparisons, and according to
it they did not even test Spypot ! They only did comparison tests
on some that cost a lot of money.
What conclusion should I jump to from that?
Phyllis
Dear Phyllis
There are two reasons for that:
1) Spybot-Search&Destroy is free, and is not paying for
$10,000 ads in PC-World.
2) In a side by side comparison Spybot-Search&Destroy
would probably make the ones, who pay for advertising,
look bad.
They know about Spybot-Search&Destroy. Years ago,
one of their writers, Steve Bass, made ME aware of
Spybot-Search&Destroy.
He writes the "Home Office" column in PC-World and now
and then manages to sneak some really good information
past the editors.
Have FUN!
