DearWebby is actually Helmut Morscher, the CEO of Webby, inc.
Originally the "Tech Support Pits" were reports of the funniest tech support incidents, but over the years the
column gradually shifted to answering tech support questions put forward by the readers of the Dear
Webby Humor Letter.
This collection of computer and web advice was started partly because readers demanded an archive, and partly
because some questions were asked again and again. Each page has a different day's Tech Support Pits column.

Tech Support Pits column from Dear Webby's Humor Letter of
10/04/04: background for digital pictures
Tech Support Pits:
From Karen===
Dear Webby,
I got a contract for taking a large number of pictures of
small items for a catalog. What is the best to use for a
neutral background that I can use for all items?
Thanks
Karen
Dear Karen
Since the catalog will be selling those goodies and not a
background, he best background is NO background.
Use the flattest and blackest background you can find.
Black velvet works fine.
After you have the picture on the computer, set the
transparency color to the black background. An edge-fade
to black acts like a drop shadow and makes the object
jump out or appear to float above the page and instantly
give it an expensive professional look.
Have FUN!
