DearWebby is actually Helmut Morscher, the CEO of Webby, inc.
Originally the "Tech Support Pits" were reports of the funniest tech support incidents, but over the years the
column gradually shifted to answering tech support questions put forward by the readers of the Dear
Webby Humor Letter.
This collection of computer and web advice was started partly because readers demanded an archive, and partly
because some questions were asked again and again. Each page has a different day's Tech Support Pits column.

Tech Support Pits column from Dear Webby's Humor Letter of
10/07/04: de-emphasize parts of pictures
Tech Support Pits:
From Lynn===
Dear Webby,
I have to make some pages with instructions, and want
to show the areas that the instructions are about in the
normal colors, and de-emphasize the other areas. Blurring
them does not do the trick, it just looks sloppy.
Hope you got a trick I can use! By the way, I use PSP.
Thanks
Lynn
Dear Lynn
Select the item you want to emphasize either with the wand
or trace around it with the lassoo selector tool in point
to point mode. Once you have it selected, invert the
selection so that everything else is now selected.
Then click on COLOR, Greyscale.
The selected "de-emphasized" area is now in greyscale,
still perfectly sharp and clean, and the emphazized part
is in full original colors.
Have FUN!
