DearWebby is actually Helmut Morscher, the CEO of Webby, inc.
Originally the "Tech Support Pits" were reports of the funniest tech support incidents, but over the years the
column gradually shifted to answering tech support questions put forward by the readers of the Dear
Webby Humor Letter.
This collection of computer and web advice was started partly because readers demanded an archive, and partly
because some questions were asked again and again. Each page has a different day's Tech Support Pits column.

Tech Support Pits column from Dear Webby's Humor Letter of
10/13/04: How fast is PayPal ?
Tech Support Pits:
From Tara===
Dear Webby,
How fast is PayPal ? Some people say it's instant, others
say it takes a week. What's the real story?
Tara
Dear Tara
Paypal will accept your payment and take your money
instantly, unless their corner of the net is down like it has
been the last few days.
However, just because they take your money instantly, that
does not mean the merchant will get it right away.
First PayPal hangs on to your money and plays with it for
three to five days before they start the transfer to the
recipient's bank.
Most banks claim that they can't trust PayPal and have
to wait until their check stops bouncing. It's actually
just electronic funds transfers, but they stick to their
excuse. That takes another three to five days until it
finally shows up in the merchant's account.
If you are a merchant or recipient, budget on an average
of seven days between a customer's PayPal payment and
you actually being able to use the money to buy the
supplies that you need to make stuff for the client.
