| DearWebby is actually Helmut Morscher, the CEO of Webby, inc.
Originally the "Tech Support Pits" were reports of the funniest tech support incidents, but over the years the
column gradually shifted to answering tech support questions put forward by the readers of the Dear
Webby Humor Letter.
This collection of computer and web advice was started partly because readers demanded an archive, and partly
because some questions were asked again and again. Each page has a different day's Tech Support Pits column.

10/18/04: Windows System Restore problem
Tech Support Pits:
Go to TOP
I was trying to restore Windows to apoint before a certain
family member, whom we shall call Bonehead from now on,
installed some stupid ad ware. However, restore does not
seem to work. I had read once that restore doesn't work
if you have Norton on the machine. Is that true?
Yes, that's true. And that's not the only thing that stops
working the way it should if you have Norton on an XP
machine. If you try to uninstall Norton you will get rid of
most of those problems. You can't completely and cleanly
uninstall it without formatting, but you'll be able to get rid
of enough of it to run Restore properly.
